Manchester City are considering a January bid for Birmingham whiz-kid Nathan Redmond.

The winger, now 17, became Blues’ second-youngest debutant ever, behind Trevor Francis, when he appeared at age 16 years and 173 days in August 2010.

Redmond has gone on to establish himself at St Andrew's this term with some superb displays in the Championship and Europa League.

His pace and skills have seen him compared to Manchester United and England wide-man Ashley Young.

City may offer Birmingham up to £6million as they try to tempt the teenager to Eastlands.

Blues need to sell to buy next month as they chase an instant return to the Premier League.

Defender Liam Ridgewell is set to join Newcastle, while Wigan want winger Jean Beausejour.

and so what begins? this is a story from James Nursey. He says Mancs 'may' make a bid and of £6m? are you kidding? for a player who has not yet had one good away game for us? Redmond isn't 'eastablished' either. It's typical carp from Nursey who specialises in jacked up transfer stories. He either writes what Pannu tells him or what every agent asks him to like the constant stream of Ridgewell stories. Does my head in.

nathan would do well to get in the 2nd team at man city!...thats not being rude, hes great potential...but as said, has not had a good away game yet...unless we sell him to man city and loan him back for a couple of seasons!

The speculation about our young, up and coming players like Redmond and Butland.

Arsenal paid 11M for Oxlaide-Chamberlian & he'd only played league 1.

6M for a young player with massive potential is chicken feed for top prem teams.

I think grooming young local talent and cashing in is as good a way as paying Ziggy's wages as any I can think of right now.

That was before the elite player performance plan (*spit) came into force, Premier League Clubs are no longer forced to pay silly money for young starlets.

As long as Redmond is on a youth contract he will be the most vulnerable. His head seems in the right place though and hopefully he realises he has a better chance of a healthy career, playing regular football here for Birmingham City.

Oops! Maybe I should have just said some thing like, 'I've always fancied young Redmond.' I shall be more careful next time, Jim.

Apparently Nursey knew of rumblings about this when we played City in the Carling Cup but thought better about not making a story from it until now.

surely its no surprise that redmond will be sought after by big clubs ? ?

Blues need the money and I expect he'll be sold, personally I would ask for a higher transfer fee than £6m and to keep him on loan til for the rest of the season ?

I hope our Club Secretary reminds the management that the last time we 'gave away' our prize possession we didn't have a sell on clause and it cost us dearly. (Andy Johnson Palace to Everton £8.5m). :banghead:

If they sold Redmond then I can see them having massive protests on their hands. I'm hoping it's paper talk.

Frankly, I'm not sure they care whether there's protests or not, toot. It's been a long long time since we heard from anyone connected with Birmingham City FC. But as the song goes, 'We don't care about.... etc'

why not, he's our player and we decide how much we sell him for(hopefully)
the writer seems almost surprised at the £12 million, but he looks as good as chamberlain did for soton and hes younger than he is?

Why would there be protests, Nathan may decide himself he wants to go there where he will improve faster there than at blues. I hope he stays but if we need the money then its bye bye.

Are you kidding me  decides to go where? Man City would not be interested in him when they can just go and but the proven products.

If Nathan stays he will get game time and improve, if he leaves for the rumoured headlines it will set him back big time ala Jack Butland who also should be Blues no1 next season. **thumbup
